World in mother’s womb is world that is dark and small space for
human being live once upon a time ago. If we try to measure its volume, that is
mother’s womb or scientifically known as uterus, it can occupy only a few litre
of water only. But, everybody had gone through this world even though none of
us can remember our life inside there. This is the place where the beginning of
life of a baby called foetus. After that, this baby will come out to this
worldly life (ad – Dunya).
Even though it is a dark place, uterus, indeed, is the safest place
for development of the foetus. For instance, the pre-matured baby delivered due
to several problems will be placed in the incubator. The function of this
incubator is like mother’s womb and it is well equipped with high medical
technologies. But still, it cannot be compared with uterus in mother’s body.
The baby in the incubator still exposed to the external threat like virus
infection as well as non complete development of the organ that lead to
permanent blemished.
Then perfect development of foetus is guaranteed if it grows in the
mother’s uterus. All possibility of threat from inside and outside will be
protected by this “firm place”...
أَلَمْ
نَخْلُقْكُمْ مِنْ مَاءٍ مَهِين ٍٍ فَجَعَلْنَاهُ فِي قَرَارٍ مَكِينٍ ٍ إِلَىٰ قَدَرٍ مَعْلُوم ٍٍ فَقَدَرْنَا فَنِعْمَ
الْقَادِرُونَ ٍ
20 Have We not created you from a fluid (held) despicable? 21 The which We placed in a place of rest,
firmly fixed, 22 For a period (of
gestation), determined (according to need)?23
For We do determine (according to need); for We are the best to determine
(things).
Firm Place
The creation
of human started with the fusion between sperm (male gamete) and ovum (female
gamete). After this process occurs, then, the stage of foetus development took
place. Indeed, the mother’s womb is really a firm place for the foetus just
like what is stated in Quran. Along the period of development, foetus has to
face thousand of threat sunlight, sound pollution, and smoke from the car which
is carcinogen and shock concussion.
Another proof
to say the mother’s womb is really a safe place for foetus is the position of
the womb itself. Mother’s womb is situated in pelvic space (between hip bone
and thighs bone) that make mother’s womb being guarded by thin and thick bones.
The structure of this pelvic bone helps in securing the development of foetus
in the early stage.
Internal Threat
During pregnancy, another most
miraculous state of affairs regarding the protection of the baby comes about.
The baby is also protected against internal threats. When a foreign body enters
the body, such as during an organ or bone marrow transplant, the host’s defence
system begins reacting, and this can sometimes lead to fatal consequences.
But that never happens to the
foetus, and the mother’s immune system does not regard it as a foreign body. It
is extraordinary how the mother’s immune system tolerates foreign genes from
the father; because the baby is 50% foreign body. Marianne van den Heuvel, a
scientist from Guelph University, describes this as ‘fascinating’ and
continues: “That was always a puzzle from an immunology standpoint because the
foetus is actually foreign. It’s part of the mother and also part of the
father. It should be rejected by the body.”
